Clay Bay Pottery Displays their “Labor of Love”

Clay Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay will host its annual summer show, “Labor of Love,” with a wine and appetizer reception on July 6, from 5 – 8 pm. The exhibit features the work of Clay Bay owners Jeanne and David Aurelius along with fellow potters who have gathered annually in Door County since 1991. Artist introductions begin at 6 pm.

On July 7, from 1 – 3 pm, the artists will hold demonstrations of throwing on the wheel and decorating pottery. Guests can observe the varied techniques of the artists and ask questions about their work.

This year, David has worked sculptural relief on large-scale pieces, which are very different from wheel thrown pottery. Jeanne continues experimenting with color and underglaze techniques in her tiles, lady vases and functional pieces.

Other artists displaying work include Mary Deneen, Martha Winter and Peter Deneen from Maiden Rock, WI. After opening a new studio this winter at Pepin Farm, Mary and Winter have created whimsical ladies, wall pieces and decorated bowls. Peter creates functional pieces with textural designs.

Also on display is Peder Hegland’s work, recognized by its Georgia brown clay and abstract designs on trays, footed bowls, large vases, goblets and pitchers. Tony Ledtje offers colorful collages. Kate and Jere Huffman’s work involves multiple layers of glazes with wax resist designs.
