Clay Figures and Tiny Teapots

Artwork by Susan Borghesi.

Off the Wheel Pottery will host an opening reception for The Figure in Clay and Tiny Teapots Show on June 26, 5:30 – 8:30 pm. Stop in to meet the artists and enjoy a glass of wine and treats. The show runs June 26 through Aug. 15.

Off the Wheel Pottery will feature figurative work by Susan Borghesi, a sculptor from Naperville, Ill. Borghesi likes to work with the human form, trying to capture a moment in time through expression and symbolism. Each piece is formed by hand with clay and glazed with colorful under glazes that are applied in layers, like a painter paints a canvas. She hopes her work speaks to viewers from both a symbolic, inner-emotional place, as well as from the place of love and visual beauty.

Off the Wheel Pottery also will feature tiny teapots by Fish Creek potter Greg Pieper and resident potter Renee’ Schwaller. Schwaller and Pieper shared a studio space during this past long, frigid winter. While potting and talking one day, they came up with the idea to make tiny teapots. Pieper throws mostly in porcelain, airbrushing over glaze on his expressive, animated forms. Schwaller throws and hand-builds her forms out of white stoneware and porcelain, then carves and paints them with under glazes and slips.
