Climate Change Coalition Sponsors Earth Day Events

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is sponsoring a pair of events in Sturgeon Bay on April 23 as part of Celebrate Earth Week Door County. Entomologist Dick Smythe will speak at 9:10 am in the Fellowship Hall at Hope United Church of Christ, 141 S. 12th Ave., Sturgeon Bay. His talk, “The Paris UN Climate Change Conference: Some Sobering News, Some Hopeful News,” will focus on international commitments to slow this global threat and mitigate its worst effects. A question and answer period will follow.

From 12 to 1 pm, architect Virge Temme will host an open house at her first S.A.G.E. home, now under construction at 518 S. 15th Ave. SAGE stands for sustainable, affordable, green and expandable.

“There are many ways we can all work toward reducing our carbon footprints,” Temme points out. “Conscientious design of the built environment is one of these ways.” Temme will provide tours of the 1,030-square-foot home with an overview of the LEED program after the Hope Church service. Light refreshments will be served at the S.A.G.E. house.
