Clippers 7th in D2 Boys Golf Sectional

Sturgeon Bay’s boys golf team saw its season come to an end Tuesday after placing seventh in the WIAA Division 2 sectional at the Hilly Haven Golf Course in De Pere.

The top-two teams and top-three individuals not on a top-two team all advanced to next week’s state tournament at Blackwolf Run in Kohler.

The Clippers’ team score of 338 was 28 strokes behind the sectional champion, Winneconne (310), which was 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Berlin (324).

Seymour freshman Vince Sigl carded the top individual score of 74, a stroke ahead of Winneconne freshman Parker Groff (75). Berlin junior Alex Johnson, Peshtigo senior Grant Bauman and Wautoma/Wild Rose junior Trey Reilly tied for third at 76.

The top individual finishes by Sturgeon Bay’s golfers were recorded by junior Elijah Bailey and sophomore Tre Wienke, who tied for 22nd at 82.

Southern Door sophomore Finley LaVine, an individual sectional qualifier, finished 35th with an 85.

The Clippers’ other three golfers – senior Isaak Aune and sophomores Porter Rabach and Owen Pichette – tied for 38th at 87.

Salm 6th, Roth 7th at D3 Sectional

The season also ended Tuesday for two Gibraltar boys golfers who were edged out of qualifying for state in the WIAA Division 3 sectional at Hunter’s Glen in Crivitz.

Vikings sophomore Finn Salm missed being the third and final individual state qualifier by a stroke after he placed sixth with an 80, finishing behind St. Mary Catholic senior Spencer Lynch placing fifth at 79. Gibraltar junior Teddy Roth carded an 81 to place seventh.

Wausau Newman Catholic senior Conner Krach tied St. Thomas Aquinas junior Kaiden Bailey for first overall at 76.
