Clippers Beat Blazers in Girls Soccer

Sturgeon Bay’s girls soccer team had 17 shots on goal and made three of them Thursday when the Clippers defeated NEW Lutheran, 3-1, at Clark Field.

After being tied 1-1 at halftime, Sturgeon Bay did all the scoring in the second half with a pair of goals.

Alexis Olson tallied two goals for the Clippers, with the other goal coming from Paula Wienke.

In goal for Sturgeon Bay, Isabella Jimenez Sefyer made two saves.

With the win, the Clippers improved to 7-4-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. They next play at Peshtigo on Friday night.

Sturgeon Bay head coach Robert Desotelle said he likes the position the team is in with seeding for playoffs happening this weekend.

“Our players recognized the opportunity created by a win [Thursday night] and responded by playing some of their best soccer, with the exception of finishing,” he said. “A home regional game was one of our early season objectives and this win will help a great deal.”
