Clippers Down Blue Devils in Boys Hoops

Sturgeon Bay’s boys basketball team recorded its first Packerland Conference victory of the season Tuesday when the Clippers won their home opener over the Oconto Blue Devils, 74-70.

Sturgeon Bay, which led 29-25 at halftime, extended its lead by as much as 16 points in the second half, before the Blue Devils capitalized on turnovers to narrow the deficit.

The Clippers had three players score in double figures led by Calvin Richard with 24 points. Isaak Aune added 20 points with Jackson Starr scoring 11 more.

Kadin Baxter led four Oconto players in double figures with a game-high 25 points.

Up next for the Clippers, who are 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Packerland play, is a conference game Friday at Peshtigo.

The Sturgeon Bay girls basketball team lost Tuesday at NEW Lutheran, 45-59.

The Clippers were led by sophomore Dasha Yeltysheva and senior Autumn Rass, who both scored 11 points.

Sturgeon Bay’s girls (1-4, 0-2) host Peshtigo on Thursday.

Eagles Fall to Bulldogs

Southern Door’s boys basketball team lost for the first time this season when the Eagles fell at home Tuesday to the Peshtigo Bulldogs, 65-55.

After holding a three-point lead at intermission, Southern Door ended up getting outscored in the second half, 37-24.

Drew Daoust led the Eagles with a game-high 28 points, which included five 3-pointers, while Jared Hawkey added 14 points.

Three Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Mason Doberstein with 18 points.

Southern Door (2-1, 1-1) plays another conference game Friday at Sevastopol.

Storm Swamps Vikings

Gibraltar’s boys basketball team lost its conference and home opener Tuesday against the Kewaunee Storm, 67-46.

The Vikings, who trailed 36-26 at halftime, were led in scoring by Jake Schar with 12 points.

The Storm had four players end up in double figures led by Cal Ihlenfeldt with 18 points.

Gibraltar (1-3, 0-1) returns to action Friday with a conference game at NEW Lutheran.

Panthers Devour Pioneers

Sevastopol’s boys basketball team trailed by 37 points at halftime and ended up losing Tuesday’s non-conference game at home to the Reedsville Panthers, 75-31.

Nick Peterson led the Pioneers with 11 points.

Sevastopol (1-3, 0-1) next hosts Southern Door on Friday.
