Closing Reception for PenArt’s We LOVE Art Children’s Exhibition

Peninsula School of Art invites the public to step back in time while celebrating today’s young artists at a free closing reception for the exhibition We LOVE Art: Door County Time Travelers on April 2, 10 am – noon. The exhibition features the work of students from Door County elementary and secondary schools, including Gibraltar Schools, Peninsula Preschool, St. John Bosco, and St. Peter’s Lutheran School.

We LOVE Art is an annual outreach program presented by PenArt that provides students ages 3-17 free access to the creation of projects that follow art education themes. The student work is then displayed in the School’s Guenzel Gallery for public viewing. This year’s We LOVE Art: Door County Time Travelers program encouraged students to grow their artistic roots by studying the work and techniques of five iconic Door County artists who made significant contributions to the growth of the peninsula’s visual arts community.

The hands-on studio experiences resulted in the creation of clay tiles in the style of Ellison Bay potters Jeanne and David Aurelius, egg tempera and watercolor paintings of landscapes reminiscent of the art of the late Gerhard Miller, collage self-portraits representing the work of Sturgeon Bay artist James Rericha, and hand-colored prints influenced by the work of the late Charles Lyons. Those participating in the school’s multi-generational Saturday outreach program, Family Art Day, created a “time machine” that acts as an interactive centerpiece for the exhibition.

During the reception, student artists will be encouraged to speak about their works. Refreshments will be served.

Peninsula School of Art and Guenzel Gallery is located at 3900 County Hwy F, in Fish Creek. Winter hours (Nov.-April) are Tuesday through Saturday, 8 am – 5 pm. For more information, call 920.868.3455 or email [email protected].
