Egg Harbor attorney David Clowers is the featured poet at the UU Dickinson Poetry Series July 7. Clowers was first introduced to Door County in the 1950s when he camped here with his family. He built a cabin on a 30-acre wooded spot near Egg Harbor eight years ago when he made Door County his home.
His love for poetry was kindled by his new environment and life here on the peninsula. He was named the Peninsula Pulse’s featured poet in 2005. His poems earned honorable mention in the Pulse’s 2006 and 2007 Grutzmacher contests. His poetry was published in the 2009 Fellowship of Wisconsin Poets Calendar; another will be included in the 2010 calendar. Clowers’ work can also be seen in the current issue of the Door County publication Knock.
Clowers strives to write a poem each day and draws his inspiration from a variety of events that touch his life. He practices law in Sturgeon Bay.
The Dickinson Poetry Series takes place at the UU Fellowship, 10341 Hwy. 42, Ephraim. After Clowers’ readings, audience members are invited to read their works during an open mic session. All are welcome, and admission is free. The featured poet August 12 is Tom Toerpe. For more information visit the website at uufdc.org.
