Club Jazz at Birch Creek

Birch Creek Music Performance Center will hold a Club Jazz concert on Nov. 3 in Juniper Hall near Egg Harbor. The concert will feature a duo of Birch Creek jazz faculty members including Reggie Thomas on piano and Rick Haydon on guitar.

Thomas is a professor of jazz piano at Michigan State University. He is a jazz clinician at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy and acts as a jazz consultant for the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program, reaching thousands of musicians, students and teachers each year. He is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest and has performed with several nationally recognized artists. In addition, he has several CD credits to his name.

Haydon is on the music faculty at SIU-Edwardsville, where he is head of the guitar program and also manages the music department’s recording studio. Additionally, Haydon serves as a faculty instructor for jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy. He has performed solo and group performances in numerous venues across the nation. Haydon received the Woody Herman Award from Birch Creek in 2004 and celebrated 12 years with Birch Creek this summer.

As in previous years, the featured artists will continue their educational outreach through Birch Creek’s Artists in Schools program. Thomas and Haydon will conduct workshops with Door County students on jazz fundamentals, techniques and musicianship while in residence.

The concert will begin at 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 6:30 pm for social time, cash bar, and desserts. Tickets are $18 for adults and free for students. Reservations are required. For more information or to purchase tickets call 920.868.3763.
