Birch Creek Music Performance Center will host a concert entitled Club Jazz on Thursday, Nov. 4. Club Jazz will feature three of Birch Creek’s jazz faculty members: Jeff Campbell, Reggie Thomas, and Rick Haydon.
Campbell, director of Birch Creek’s Jazz Program, has recently been named the head of Jazz Studies at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. In addition, he frequently performs with the Rochester Philharmonic as well as jazz pianist Marian McPartland, Gene Bertoncini, and Trio East.
Thomas is currently a professor at Southern Illinois University. He hosts jazz workshops for Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy and acts as a jazz consultant for the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Program.
Haydon is also a professor at Southern Illinois University. He also serves as a faculty instructor for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy.
As in previous years, the featured artists will continue their educational outreach through Birch Creek’s Artists in Schools program by conducting workshops with Door County students on jazz fundamentals, techniques, and musicianship while in residence.
Club Jazz will begin with a social hour at 7 pm, with the concert to follow at 7:30 pm in Birch Creek’s Juniper Hall. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available. The event is $15 per person; advanced reservations are requested. Students will receive free admission.
