Cold-Wax Paintings at Idea Gallery

Idea Gallery is showcasing Milwaukee artist Allison B. Cooke’s paintings in cold wax, acrylic and gouache through Nov. 1. 

Cooke is widely collected and represented in galleries throughout the nation, and her work was recently featured in Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts & Conversations by Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin. She works in a loft studio most of the year but also teaches at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, during the summer. 

Cooke wrote about her work, “I find pleasure in the experimental nature of mixed-media combinations and the unfamiliarity when making an image. I find inspiration in the aging architecture, time-worn paintings and sculptures, and other world-class art treasures existing side by side with realities of present-day street culture.”
