Collection Invitational Exhibit & Mosaic Project Hang at the Hardy

Ephraim’s Hardy Gallery is pleased to announce the 2012 Collection Invitational Exhibit and Collector’s Choice Benefit, as well as the fifth annual Community Mosaic Project. The exhibits will be on display from July 21 through August 26, with an opening reception, which is free and open to the public, July 20 from 5:30 to 7 pm.

The Collection Invitational will highlight two works each from 53 professional artists that live and work along the Door Peninsula. One piece is for display and one is a donation that will be featured in a silent auction to benefit the non-profit organization. The auction will commence July 20 and run through August 26.

“The funds raised from this annual exhibit support a large part of the Hardy Gallery’s operations,” says Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, Executive Director of the Hardy.

Developed as a means to make the arts accessible for all members of the Door County community, the Community Mosaic Project consists of the construction of a large-scale mosaic comprised of 300 6-inch by 6-inch miniature artworks. The artworks submitted are by artists of all skill levels and abilities, including youth, professional, and novice artists, and are arranged to form one uniform piece of artwork.

The public is also invited to purchase a piece of the 2012 Community Mosaic Project. Canvases are assigned numbers at random, and the sale system is similar to that of a lottery; even though patrons can choose their own number, they will not know which canvas they have received until it arrives in their mailbox in mid-September. $25 will buy one original artwork and cover the cost of shipping the work.
