Color-Brave Photo Project Visits Hope Church

Hope United Church of Christ, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County (UUFDC), JUST Door County, Inc., and the Door County Civility Project will bring FIT Oshkosh, Inc.’s traveling exhibit, Color-Brave Photo Project: Black and Brown Faces, A New Narrative to the county.

The exhibit, funded in part by the Wisconsin Humanities Council and the Oshkosh Community Foundation, features the portraits and personal stories of people of color, including African Americans, Latinos, and Asians. According to FIT Oshkosh, Inc.’s Executive Director, Tracey Robertson, “The exhibit humanizes its subjects and explains their motivations for making their home in the community in which they live and work. In many cases, these stories dispel ingrained and deeply held stereotypes.”

The Color-Brave Photo Project runs Aug. 24-26 at Hope United Church of Christ, 141 S. 12th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. Hours are 10 am – 4 pm on Aug. 24 and 25, and 10 am – 3 pm on Aug. 26. A reception and a special evening viewing of the exhibit will be held Aug. 24 at 6 pm, followed by a community conversation about the exhibit at 7 pm.
