Colors of Spring

Handcrafted boxes by Nancy Akerly.

“Colors of Spring” is the upcoming show at Meadows Art Gallery in Sister Bay. Pieces in this exhibit use color and construction, as well as function, to build art statements that speak of promise and change.

Scott Smith is again sharing the kites he collects from all over the world that showcase wonderful use of color and intricate construction.

The Meadows is also featuring two Door County women as part of the exhibit – Lori Wier and Nancy Akerly.

Wier is a recent resident of Door County, and her work is a welcome new direction. Her images bring Caribbean color to American Indian and African American design. Her skillful two-dimensional design is then translated to functional art.

Akerly is a longtime resident of Door County, who will debut her box design and construction. She creates the box shapes with various types of material, some of which are hand created.

This spring show runs through April 29, with a reception on April 5 from 5 to 7 pm. The Meadows Art Gallery, open 10 am to 5 pm daily, is located at Scandia Village in Sister Bay.
