• Veterans Day ceremonies will be held Nov. 11 at Sevastopol School and on Washington Island at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center. The Sevastopol ceremony will begin at 10 am and will feature guest speaker Colonel Thomas “Tim” Lawrie. A luncheon for veterans and their family members will follow.

The Washington Island ceremony begins at 10:30 am and will feature guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel James P. O’Neil. The public is encouraged to attend both of these events to recognize our local veterans.

• Door County Silent Sports Alliance is hosting a fall trail work day at Peninsula State Park Saturday, Nov. 7, from noon – 3 pm. Meet at Lot 5.

• The Door County Highway Department is collecting your hazardous waste Nov. 6 in Sister Bay and Nov. 7 in Sturgeon Bay.

Common household products like lawn and garden pesticides, automotive fluids, leftover paints, and other potentially harmful chemicals can pose a significant threat to the environment if not disposed of properly.

The Sister Bay site will be open Friday, Nov. 6 from 4 – 6 pm at the Sister Bay/ Liberty Grove Fire Dept at 2258 Mill Road. Sturgeon Bay will be collecting on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8 – 11 am (or earlier if maximum volume is met) at the Door County Highway Dept. at 1001 S. Duluth. Please note this is a first come, first serve basis.

• There will be a meeting to discuss ways to meet the housing shortage for seasonal workers in Door County Nov. 10 at 10 am at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall, 2392 Cty F. The seasonal workforce is vital to the local economy, but finding housing for them is a growing challenge for individual businesses to face on their own. Business owners are invited to share their thoughts and ideas on what the housing needs are and how to meet the demand affordably.

• The Door County Economic Development Corporation will sponsor a free marketing seminar for Door County businesses. The two-part seminar will be held at the Gibraltar Fire Station, 3496 Hwy F, with the first session on Nov. 17 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. That session features national speaker Al Lautenslager, the Certified Guerrilla Marketing Coach.
