Commercial Boat Operators Needed at Plum Island

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has opened the Commercial Special Use Permit application period for commercial boat operators to transport and guide the public at the Plum Island Unit of Green Bay National Wildlife Refuge for the 2021 season.

Plum Island is located in Lake Michigan off the tip of the Door peninsula, near Washington Island. It is managed from the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in Mayville.

Completed and signed permit applications must be emailed to Dave Bolin, assistant refuge manager, at [email protected] and received by Dec. 31, 4 pm. Operator schedules will be determined after refuge staff members evaluate the number of eligible tour operators.

General eligibility requirements include proof of insurance coverage, a U.S. Coast Guard Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels license, state of Wisconsin business license and boat registration, current CPR/first-aid training, and suitability of mooring in designated dock location.
