The Egg Harbor community came together to achieve the successful rescue of a young, male bald eagle, according to Rob Hults of Open Door Bird Sanctuary, located north of Carlsville on County I within the Town of Egg Harbor.
The eagle is now at Wildlife of Wisconsin in Cato. The rescue organization will assess why the eagle was incapacitated and devise a treatment plan. He will then receive the care he needs to hopefully make a full recovery and return to Door County for release.
Hults said people spotted the eagle and cared enough to find help for him. Open Door staff – all volunteers – then offered their time, and a volunteer transport team took the eagle from Open Door to Cato.
“Keeping the public informed and engaged is what makes a success story like this possible,” Hults said.
