Community Snowman Build Offers Family Fun during Fire & Ice Weekend

“Do you wanna build a snowman?” That’s the question Destination Sturgeon Bay is asking as the Community Snowman Build returns to Fire & Ice Weekend for the third year.

“When we came up with the idea, we had park space that was underutilized and really wanted to create something geared toward kids for that weekend,” said Carly Sarkis, marketing and events director for Destination Sturgeon Bay.

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 19, at 9 am – and throughout the weekend – at Martin Park, 207 3rd Ave., kids (and kids at heart) may build their own person out of snow. Destination Sturgeon Bay provides all the parts – carrots for noses, coal for eyes, sticks for arms – and even hats, sunglasses, scarves and mittens to accessorize the snowy creations. The first two years saw 15-20 snowmen made throughout the weekend, but Sarkis said there’s room for more.

“A lot of people have expressed how much they really wanted something for kids to do outside,” Sarkis said. “Fire & Ice is more of a walking activity, and this was something hands-on for the kids to do.”
