A Successful Inaugural Teen Open Mic and Karaoke Night

Unity Releases Community Impact Numbers
Unity recently released 2012 community impact numbers. In 2012, nearly 10,000 lives were enriched through Unity’s services: 2,518 patients received care through palliative and hospice services and an additional 7,091 people through bereavement care.

Door County Candy owner Terry Ullman is looking to make life a little sweeter for 32 Door County non-profits. To celebrate Door County Candy’s 16th anniversary last year, Ullman offered to match up to ten $100 donations to Door County non-profits.

It’s “Hound Haven” at the Door County Humane Society kennels right now. Three of the coolest hound dogs around are at the shelter, and each will bring something different to their forever families.

The Hope Church Mid-High Sunday School Class exceeded their 1,000-can goal for the Souper Bowl of Caring food drive. After weeks of work, they collected 2, 236 non-perishable items to donate to Lakeshore CAP and Feed My People.

Sturgeon Bay Lions are selling “Roses for Spring” again this year. Lions’ primary activity is blindness prevention and sight conservation. Money collected from this sale is used locally to help our neighbors who cannot afford an eye examination and new glasses.

Door County Snowmobilers Surpass $1 Million Mark for MS Society
Door County Snowmobilers are happy to announce their quest to raise one million dollars to fight Multiple Sclerosis is accomplished. The 2013 snowmobile rides, which ended March 1, raised $47,999 to aid the Wisconsin Chapter of the National MS Society.

PMF Accepting Scholarship Applications
The Peninsula Music Festival is now accepting applications for its college scholarship. This three-year, $1,000 per year, scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior who desires to further his or her education in music.

Supreme Court Candidate Visits Sturgeon Bay
Ed Fallone, candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court, will visit the Sturgeon Bay Library on March 28 at 7 pm. Fallone will make opening remarks then answer questions from voters and the media in advance of the April 2 election.

Leadership Door County (LDC) is seeking nominees for the first annual Leaders Among Us award. The award recognizes LDC alumni who have gone above and beyond in serving the community and will be presented during LDC’s Commencement Ceremony on June 18.

Nathan Fearing Organizes Campus-wide Volunteer Event
Nathan Fearing, son of Michael Fearing, Sister Bay, and Andrea Fearing, Egg Harbor, helped raise awareness of homelessness and hunger by organizing a campus-wide volunteer event at Lawrence University.

United Way Now Accepting Applications
United Way of Door County is now accepting applications to grant funds to organizations that meet specific human service needs. Executive Director Amy Kohnle explains, “After extensive research, four critical areas of focus were identified by residents of Door County: Basic Needs, Community, Health Care and AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse).
