  • DOOR CANcer Hosts Cut-a-thon Benefit

    • A Cut-a-thon, benefiting DOOR CANcer, Inc. will take place at The Clipper’s Mate, 7 S. Madison Avenue, Sturgeon Bay on October 9 from 11am – 2 pm. The stylists from Yankee Clipper and The Clipper’s Mate will be volunteering their time giving shampoos and haircuts to men, women and children.

  • Sturgeon Bay Students Learn About Energy

    Students in Seth Wilson and Brian Pahl’s classes at Sturgeon Bay High School had the opportunity for hands on learning about energy, energy efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy.

  • Cheeseburgers in Paradise Benefit Fire Department

    Diane Abts of the Pirates in the Harbour presented a check for $1,000 to Dale Wiegand of the Egg Harbor volunteer fire department as the result of the organization’s Cheeseburgers in Paradise cookout that was held on July 30 for Carlsville Day.

  • Living History

    Claudia Simoni Pedersen (second from right) of Denmark, along with other exchange students in northeast Wisconsin, had the opportunity to meet Abraham Lincoln and many soldiers in the Civil War reenactment that took place at the Wade House west of Sheboygan.

  • Winners of Baileys Harbor Scarecrow Contest

    Kristen Peil and Caleb Whitney won the Scarecrow Contest sponsored by the Baileys Harbor Community Association during Autumnfest, while Ray Spangler’s scarecrow received an honorable mention.

    Leo is cuddly and social, showing how much he was loved in his former household. This handsome dark orange tabby is neutered, current on vaccinations, and had all four sets of claws removed.

  • Taste of the Garden Door a Sucess

    • Close to 500 members of the community and area visitors attended this year’s Taste of the Garden Door. A variety of fruits and vegetables were donated, prepared, grilled and/or sautéed in The Garden Door by volunteers from UW Peninsular Agricultural Research Station, Wood Orchard, Steep Creek Farms, UW Extension, DCMGA, and Curt Campbell from the Oilerie.

    A brother and sister kitten duo arrived at the shelter from Liberty Grove in early September. Just three months old, they are filled with that kitten curiosity that is so fun to watch.

  • Ahnapee Hill Cleaning Services Donated Cleaning to CCDC

    • The Community Clinic of Door County (CCDC) recently received free window cleaning from Ahnapee Hill Cleaning Services. When Executive Director Laura Moeller contacted Ahnapee Hill Cleaners for an estimate on what it would cost to have the clinic’s windows thoroughly cleaned, owner John Hill said he would contact the clinic with an estimate.

  • Golf Outing Benefits DoorCANcer

    President Mike Lautenbach of the Door County Tavern League presented Chris Nelson of DoorCANcer with a check for $600 from their June golf outing at Cherry Hills.

  • Fall Luncheon Preparations

    Pastor Bruce Foster of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church adds finishing touches on the croissants to be served at this fall’s luncheon on October 1 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the church.

    Regal in her longhaired pristine white coat, Sophie exudes dignity and patience after more than 18 months at the Door County Humane Society. Because of her owner’s failing health, Sophie was surrendered to the shelter in early March 2010.

  • Unity Receives $100,000 Donation

    • Unity announced its receipt of $100,000 from the annual Schreiber Charity Golf Classic to support its bereavement program. Unity was selected through an application process, along with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Brown County, to benefit from funds donated by suppliers and partners of Schreiber at the July 25 golf outing at Oneida Golf and Country Club.

  • Volunteer Voices

    Just as Rudy and Shirley Senarighi of Sturgeon Bay sit down to enjoy dinner, the phone rings. Shirley gets up to answer it. The couple has been volunteering for the American Red Cross for several years and Rudy knows by the end of Shirley’s conversation that the American Red Cross needs their assistance.

    There’s an entirely new side to Echo now that he is free-range lobby cat. With the adoption of 11 cats in late August, the shelter was able to release several long-term cage cats into the lobby.
