Community’s Garden Planted

• The first plantings are in at The Community’s Garden on 16th Place in Sturgeon Bay. The mission of the garden is to showcase the connection between a community’s well being and nature. The garden is meant to be a laboratory for learning that will provide access to gardening, a place for healing and camaraderie, an opportunity for education and a way for the community to work together to be good stewards of the land.

• Wisconsin Wins (WI WINS) tobacco compliance inspections were recently completed in Door County with only one sale of tobacco products to minors out of 30 inspections. A cross section of retailers were inspected including convenience stores, taverns, bowling alleys and grocery stores.

• The Door County Land Trust dedicated the new 332-acre Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal and Nature Preserve Aug. 27 in a ceremony attended by many who were integral in making the preserve a reality.

The land trust purchased the 332 acres from the Sturgeon Bay Utilities in December of last year and has since worked to establish public hiking trails and educational signage out at the preserve. The property includes 740 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline.
