Complimentary and Compatible

Michael Doerr of Doerr Woodworking will now show his work at the Martinez Studio, located at 5877 Highway 57 in Jacksonport, after years of successful representation at Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor.

After a successful collaboration at the Architectural Digest Home Show in New York City, Wence and Sandra Martinez invited Doerr to be a guest artist at their studio last year and found their work to be complimentary and compatible when shown together. Doerr’s furniture can also be seen at his one-man studio at 4371 Co. Rd. M in Sturgeon Bay, where he welcomes visitors by appointment.

Doerr began working with wood in the 1970s as a wooden shipwright apprenticing under Master Ferdinand Nimphius at his boat company. A desire to build small boats and furniture on his own, he moved to Cedarburg and began creating an original line of handmade wooden furniture specializing in comfortable chairs. Now, thirty years later, Doerr has set up residence in Door County, building furniture and teaching chair construction classes and has developed a national and international clientele base, shipping works to Europe and Asia.
