Compost Initiative Seeks Input Through Survey

The newly formed Door Community Compost Initiative (DCCI) is seeking input – through a short online survey – from the county’s food-scrap-generating businesses regarding their level of interest in a food-scrap pickup service.

“The answers that we gain from this survey are vital to helping us design a program that meets the needs of area businesses,” said David LaLuzerne, who is on the steering committee of the new initiative.

Businesses can complete the brief survey by Nov. 5 at climatechangedoorcounty.com/door-community-compost-initiative

The DCCI is a grassroots effort seeking to educate the community about the benefits of composting, encourage sustainable practices by diverting food scraps and other organic matter from landfills, and inspire the restoration of Door County soils.

The DCCI is already working with the Village of Egg Harbor to provide volunteers to assist with a weekly food-scrap pickup from village restaurants and is also partnering with Door County farms.
