Computer and Household Appliance Recycle Day Scheduled

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Town Board has scheduled a Computer and Household Appliance Recycle Day on August 6. It will be held at the Town Hall. An invitation to Washington Island to participate has also been extended. Many electronic items will have little or no cost involved to be recycled. A list of items and the cost to recycle are posted on the town website.

• The Town Board will now handle the Health, Safety and Welfare Committee. Meetings will be scheduled as needed and likely be prior to regular board meetings.

• The summer Listening Session has been scheduled for August 11. It is an opportunity for town residents to address the Town Board on any and all matters. The board will not act on any items at that meeting but will schedule for future meetings. When practical, the board will respond to questions.

• The Economic Sustainability Committee heard a presentation by Sam Perlman of the Door County Economic Development Corporation on business retention. Brad Viegut of RW Baird & Company will present a presentation of assistance tools available to the town in an upcoming meeting.

• Positions are available on the Town Plan Commission. Interested persons wishing to serve on the Plan Commission or any other town committee are asked to contact the Town Office.

• A Class A beer and liquor license has been issued to the Brew Coffee House.

• A reminder that the well testing program in conjunction with UW-Stevens Point is scheduled for the weekend of June 24. The test is very comprehensive and will give residents more details of their well water than a normal sampling. Information is posted on the town website.

• The first white settler at Gills Rock was six-foot, 200-pound Allen Bradley. He built his cabin there in 1856 and lived out his life hunting and fishing. Gills Rock was named for Elias Gill, a timber operator and pier owner. Gills Rock is part of Liberty Grove Town and has always had a close relationship with Ellison Bay.
