Comstock Included in Animals, Birds & Wildlife 2013

Three pieces of artwork by Baileys Harbor artist Jan Comstock were selected as finalists in the Richeson 75 International – Animals, Birds & Wildlife 2013. The online exhibit at richeson75.com opened Dec. 6 and is viewable for the coming year. The exhibit features artists from across United States and Canada.

The selected pieces are from a series of owls that Comstock completed in 2013. According to Comstock, animals are her second favorite subject to paint following the human form. Though she has painted landscapes and still lifes she is most captivated by the emotional impact she can achieve by painting people and animals.

Ministry Health Care selected one of the paintings, a portrait of a Great Horned Owl, titled “Sentinel,” for the cover of their fall 2013 newsletter. To see more of Comstock’s work, visit jancomstock.com.
