Construction, Nature by Appointment at Crossroads

In 2018, the Leadership Door County class approached Crossroads at Big Creek about creating a kayak launch/landing/wildlife-viewing platform at The Cove Preserve. As popular as it is, it’s difficult to access.

Thanks to several foundations and individual donors, Crossroads is starting construction on a pull-through, curved driveway between 20th Place and Utah Street that will enable school buses to unload without having to back up, provide off-street parking for other visitors, and include a designated space for unloading kayaks and canoes.

During the construction, The Cove Preserve will be closed to vehicles, but access to the shoreline and kayak launch will be permitted by foot outside of the construction area. Visit Crossroads’ Facebook page and website to find out more.

This summer, Crossroads will hold Nature by Appointment, Tuesday – Saturday, at 9 am, 10 am and 11 am. Small groups (wearing masks and practicing social distancing) will be able to participate in a 45-minute, private outdoor nature program with a naturalist.

To make the appointment, email [email protected] with “Nature by Appointment” as the subject line. List the names of participants, the days and times when you’re available, and the program topic of your choice: explore the creek, summer wildflowers, or fossils.
