Contemporary Art Tour Features Three Galleries

Three festive receptions will run concurrently Sept. 11, 3-7 pm, at Idea Gallery, Martinez Studio and Cappaert Contemporary Gallery during this year’s Contemporary Art Tour. Now an annual event, it shows the diversity of the county’s contemporary-art scene as the galleries feature both their owners’ artwork and recent works by the artists they represent.

Idea Gallery (, 6551 Cty T in West Jacksonport, is celebrating its fifth season and showcases the work of 50 visionary artists in all media. Since opening, it’s expanded with a sculpture garden and an annex gallery for demonstrations and workshops.

Martinez Studio (, 5877 Hwy 57 in Jacksonport, highlights contemporary, hand-spun wool tapestries based on Wence Martinez’s geometric patterns and symbolist paintings by Sandra Martinez. Their collaborative, award-winning artwork resides in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Wisconsin Art, National Museum of Mexican Art and Miller Art Museum.

Cappaert Contemporary Gallery (, 7901 Hwy 42 in Egg Harbor, is the working studio and gallery of artist Ginnie Cappaert, now in its seventh season. She also represents 30 artists who work in sculpture, encaustic, painting, wood, ceramics and jewelry.
