Cookie Art and Watercolors at DCAL Gallery

A lifelong artist and watercolorist, Davida Schulman is the artist of the week beginning Sept. 24 at The Gallery of the Door County Art League. She earned her MFA from Illinois State University (ISU) and is a member of the Watercolor USA Honor Society and Distinguished Alumni at ISU College of Fine Arts. She taught at Oakton Community College near Chicago for 13 years.

Schulman, a new member of the DCAL gallery, loves the uniqueness of the use of special paper to create the soft atmospheric effect of her work and “the unpredictability of wet paper to express my appreciation for the endless variety in the world around me.”

Jill Wettstein of the Funky Cookie Studio will demonstrate the art of cookie decorating from 2 – 3 pm on Sept. 24 as part of the Taste of the Top at the Top of the Hill Shops. There will also be artist demos and special sales on artist work.

Wettstein’s cookie designs reflect her artistic philosophy of using clean design, innovative techniques and vivid color to impart personality to each funky creation. She is considered a mentor in the cookie community and was a finalist for “Cookie Artist of the Year” by Cake Masters Magazine (2014). Visit the Funky Cookie Studio at the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm or visit funkycookiestudio.com.

Creatively crafted birdhouses by DCAL artists will also be sold at the Taste of the Top event. The Birdhouse Dutch Auction will culminate in October with special pricing. Visit the gallery daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
