Cottage Row Opens Season with Charles L. Peterson Show

“Eldred’s Barn” by Charles L. Peterson

Charles L. Peterson’s Memorial Weekend show will be the first of Cottage Row Framing & Gallery’s special events for 2012. The weekend show will open May 26 with a special meet-the-artist reception from 10 am – 1 pm.

A Door County resident since 1973, Peterson has established a national and international reputation for his paintings and limited edition reproductions. A Marietta College professor and department head for 20 years, Peterson has applied his classical training to genre painting; his brush strokes illuminate the lives of ordinary people doing ordinary things, most often in historical settings.

His interest in nature – particularly the sea – is evident throughout his work. A lifelong sailor, water has been a dominating theme in his paintings and illustrations. He has twice won the Thomas M. Hoyne Award for work representing particular aspects of the marine fishing industry and is listed as a Modern Marine Master by the Mystic Maritime Museum Gallery.

The show will unveil a collection of more than 30 new original paintings of varying themes and sizes. Watercolor, pencil, and ink and gouache are some of the mediums Peterson used to create this collection. Peterson’s books as well as his cards and a large selection of his signed, limited edition prints will also be available for purchase.

The gallery is in the big red barn at Orchard Country Winery & Market on Highway 42, just south of Fish Creek.
