County Board Begins Budget Discussion

The Door County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to discuss its next budget July 23. Last year the board approved a budget increase of more than 12 percent by a single vote, an outcome that angered several members.

Marc Savard represents District 20, which includes Sister Bay and parts of Liberty Grove, and said he pushed for the special meeting and moving up discussion of budget issues because he thinks board members should be better informed before approving the annual budget, which exceeds $62 million. It’s too much money to wait until mid-fall to discuss, he said.

“In 1993, when it was a $7 million budget, you could go through it page by page in two days,” he said. “But now government is too big for that.”
