County First Graders Visit MDCMC

(Left to right) St. John Bosco students Merrill Kelsey, Hailey DuBois and Ashton Deuchert watched Dr. Davis remove an arm cast from Auxiliary volunteer, Carol Davis.

Inquisitive first graders filled hallways and departments of Ministry Door County Medical Center on the first three Wednesdays in April for 90-minute, kid friendly tours. For more than 40 years Door County Medical Center Auxiliary volunteers have orchestrated and led these tours, giving the children the opportunity to meet medical center staff, observe routine procedures, and get a close-up view of commonly used medical equipment.

Tours helped the children become acquainted with the exciting world of health and science. Dr. Davis and Dr. Tomaszewski were available to talk to the children about their bones and demonstrate applying and removing a cast.

This year, 239 children attended from the following schools: Sturgeon Bay, Southern Door, Sevastopol, Saint John Bosco, Saint Peters Lutheran, Gibraltar and two home-schooled families.
