County Home Sales Steady in July

Though the real estate market nationwide remains entrenched in a slump, second quarter home sales statistics show Door County gained a respite from the struggles, at least temporarily.

Second quarter sales increased ever so slightly, from 123 units in 2007 to 124 over the same period in 2008. That number remains considerably down from the high of 177 units sold in the second quarter of 2005, according to statistics from the Wisconsin Realtors Association. The median home sale price in quarter two held steady with last year at $203,600.

First quarter sales dropped from 75 to 53 this year, roughly half of the total sold in the first quarter of 2005 and 2006.

Statewide home sales fell nearly 21 percent in the second quarter. The nationwide decline was 16 percent.
