County League Baseball Opens with No-Hitter

Door County League (DCL) baseball returned to action May 9 with an opening-day highlight: Egg Harbor’s Aly Burne threw a no-hitter in a 7-0 victory over Maplewood. 

Prior to Sunday’s games, host teams observed a moment of silence for two DCL icons who died in the fall of 2019. 

Jennings “Jocko” Rader was the soul of the league for more than 60 years. He was instrumental in professionalizing the league and was inducted into the DCL Hall of Fame in 1992 for his service in many capacities: as an officer, statistician and unofficial historian.  

Russell “Skip” Kaeske’s love of Door County and baseball led him to serve as the league’s vice president in 2015 and then its secretary/treasurer.
