Eleven youth from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Forestville and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Algoma will serve the people of New York City from June 11 – 17. The youth, eighth graders to college students, will serve in many ways, including painting, landscaping and gardening, cleaning, assisting a food pantry, conducting a neighborhood “block party,” distributing pamphlets for English as a Second Language classes, and conducting a vacation Bible school. They will also gain cross-cultural experiences by living for a week in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States. The youth group is partnering with Christ Lutheran Church in the neighborhood of Woodside in the borough of Queens. The Rev. Christopher Jackson, pastor at St. Peter’s and St. John’s, will lead the youth along with Mrs. Rebecca Haltaufderheid, a member at St. John’s.
