Covid Cases, Hospitalizations Increase in Northeastern Wisconsin

As Door County gears up for fall color traffic it will do so as Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations jump throughout northeast Wisconsin.

Pumpkin Patch Festival and Fall Fest weekends are usually two of the busiest of the year on the peninsula. Those festivals are canceled because of the pandemic, but business owners expect a crush of visitors nonetheless.

As of Sunday night there were 84 people hospitalized with Covid-19 in northeast Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Health. That’s up from 51 just a week ago. Last week Door County reported 103 new positive Covid-19 tests, a 50 percent increase. The county total is now 329. Hospitals in the region report 28 percent of beds are available (there are usually about 35 percent available).

Statewide the state reached an all-time high Friday of 574 people hospitalized with the virus, 201 more than one week earlier. In Kewaunee County there have now been 536 positive tests for Covid-19, and almost 9,000 in Brown County.
