Covotsos Joins Town Board as Supervisor

Welcome to “Notes from the Grove” providing information about Liberty Grove Town government to residents and visitors.

• At a Special Board meeting on December 21, the board appointed Lou Covotsos of Ellison Bay to fill the vacant supervisor position. Three candidates were interviewed by the board and clerk Bud Kalms; Michael Mercier and Bob Murray, both from Ellison Bay, were the other candidates interviewed. A special thank you to the three candidates for their interest in serving the community.

Covotsos and his wife Danielle became full-time residents of Liberty Grove after his retirement from McDermott Will & Emery, LLP, an international law firm located in Chicago. He was the Office Administrator, Director of Legal Information and Facilities Services and Head Librarian for the firm. He and Danielle have four children.

• The board will hold only one regular meeting in January, scheduled for the 16th. Administrator Kalms and Chairman Lowry will meet with the newly appointed supervisor to brief him on board policies and issues before the board. Covotsos currently represents Liberty Grove on the Joint Fire District Exploratory Committee, Plan Commission and will join Supervisors Goss and Forkert on the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Board.

• The board authorized the name change for the Economic Sustainability Committee to the Economic Development Committee. The board also agreed with the Highway Committee recommendation to not establish a separate road maintenance policy for Heritage Roads.

• The board has approved an Intergovernmental Agreement that establishes funding for the Joint Fire District Exploratory Committee. Along with Liberty Grove, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Town of Egg Harbor, Village of Egg Harbor and Town of Gibraltar are participating in the Exploratory Committee.

• Janet Johnson has completed the work on assembling the new Door County Zoning Books, which are provided to board supervisors and plan commission members.
