Creating Characters

Tall or short? Cheerful or grim? Blond or brunette? Learn how to write beyond superficial descriptions and create multi-dimensional characters with the workshop “Creating Characters that Connect with Readers,” from Write On, Door County. The workshop takes place July 18, 9 am to noon, and will be led by author Patricia Skalka.

Skalka is the author of the Dave Cubiak Door County Mystery Series. The first novel in the series, Death Stalks Door County, was released last spring. Death at Gills Rock was published in June. The novels have earned critical praise for both their story lines and their characters. Skalka is a former freelance staff writer for Reader’s Digest specializing in medical and human interest stories. She has worked as a magazine editor, ghost writer, and writing instructor. A native of Chicago, she lives in the city and takes time off at her Door County cottage.

The workshop will be held in the conference room of Glas Coffeehouse, 67 E. Maple St., Sturgeon Bay. Cost of the workshop is $45; registration in advance is required. To register, visit writeondoorcounty.org, email [email protected], or call 920.868.1457.
