Creative Alchemy

Write On, Door County offers a workshop with author Dale M. Kushner that will help writers and artists tap into their creative imagination to enhance poetry, prose or other art medium. The class, titled “Ambidextrous Writing: Following Your Conscious and Unconscious Mind into Story and Poem,” meets on Nov. 15, 1 – 4 pm in the Fish Creek area; location is provided with registration confirmation.

Using the popular idea of the bicameral brain as a springboard, this writing workshop will examine the creative alchemy between our rational and associative minds. Through in-class writing exercises, practices to enhance attention, and group discussion, participants will delve into the sui generis of their own imaginations. They will also explore how the use of symbol and image and connotative and denotative language add depth and texture to writing. This workshop will be helpful to artists of all genres. Wear comfortable clothes and bring along a notebook and pen or pencil.

Kushner is the author of the novel The Conditions of Love as well as several poetry collections, most recently More Alive Than Lions Roaring. She has been honored by a Wisconsin Arts Board Grant, a Pushcart Prize nomination, and residencies at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, and the Fetzer Institute as a participant in their first writers’ conference on compassion and forgiveness. She is on the core faculty of the Assist Institute and lives with her husband in Madison, Wis.

The cost of the workshop is $65. Register online at writeondoorcounty.org or call 920.868.1457 for other payment options.
