Cross Country Ski Report as of Feb. 11

All cross country ski trails are open in all areas of the county and the weather forecast predicts warmer winter temperatures so that means even more great skiing opportunities.

Potawatomi State Park: All trails were groomed for skate skiing and tracked for diagonal stride on Feb. 11. The skate lane and diagonal stride tracks are firm, fast and rated very good with minimal debris.

Crossroads at Big Creek: With the cold temperatures the track is fast and the skate lanes remain firm and smooth. Friends of Crossroads will loan ski equipment and snowshoes for free on Sundays from 1 to 3 pm.

Whitefish Dunes State Park: All trails were re-groomed on Feb. 5 and a new track set. Overall, the trail conditions present some of the best skiing in years with no freeze/thaw cycles. On Feb. 15, the rescheduled Candlelight Ski event will be held under an almost full moon.

Peninsula State Park: The purple skate loop has been groomed as of Feb. 11 and is in very good shape. The rest of the skate is hard packed with little texture and should be groomed. All the tracks are good at best because of debris.

Newport State Park: Newport and Europe Bay loops single track trails are in good shape, but some trail debris is starting to accumulate.
