Cross Country Ski Report as of March 4

Here we are in March, but both the weather and ski reports look like they belong in January. The silver lining is the days are longer for skiing, and all ski areas across the county remain open.

Potawatomi State Park: The green, blue, black and red trails were groomed for skate and diagonal stride skiing on March 4. The skate lane is medium firm with great glide. The diagonal stride track is firm and deep.

Crossroads at Big Creek: All trails were re-groomed since our recent snowfall, and tracks are set. The new snow helped improve conditions at Crossroads as it had become icy in recent weeks.

Whitefish Dunes State Park: Trails were last groomed March 1. Tracks are free of debris, and the plan is to groom all trails before the weekend.

Peninsula State Park: Ski trails are in good conditions. No current report from the trail groomer.

Newport State Park: Trails haven’t been groomed but the few skiers that have been out have created a good track over the old base. Grooming will be limited in March, but hikers and snowshoers are asked to respect the track.
