Crossroads Declares Nov. 26 Green Friday

At Crossroads at Big Creek, Nov. 26 will be Green Friday rather than Black Friday, so the preserve and educational center will feature events focused on evergreens to celebrate the start of the holiday season

Programs will start at 9:30 am with Family Science: Evergreens, a program of hands-on activities about evergreen trees in the lab with the naturalist. It’s appropriate for ages 4 and older. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

At 10:30 am, families and individuals are invited to help gather evergreen boughs in the forest to be made into holiday decorations at Crossroads. Meet on the Collins Learning Center’s porch. Following the collection, gather at the fire at the outdoor Council Ring to warm up or roast hot dogs or other food. (Take your own food.) Crossroads will provide makings for s’mores.

At 1 pm, learn about the history of the Christmas tree and the evergreen species found at Crossroads in the Collins Learning Center’s lecture hall.

Then, join the naturalist at 3 pm for a gentle, hour-long hike on the Forest Trail to see numerous very different evergreen forests. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.
