The Crossroads at Big Creek board of directors has established the Coggin Heeringa Research and Education Endowment: a new fund that supports the organization’s educational and research efforts and honors Heeringa’s passion, vision and dedication in leading the organization for 20 years as its director. She now serves as its program director and naturalist.
“We wanted, through this initiative, to recognize all Coggin has done and continues to do for Crossroads,” said Matt Luders, board president. “Since her passion is research and her focus is on Crossroads’ future, this endowment is fitting. It ensures that research will be an ongoing, supported component of our mission.”
The endowment – housed at the Door County Community Foundation – will help to fund research and education in water quality, ecology, sustainability and environmental restoration.
“We appreciate the many ways our community supports Crossroads,” said Executive Director Laurel Duffin Hauser. “Contributions to this specific fund allow us to plan work that benefits the greater scientific community and to participate in a broader ecological conversation. This is a commitment Coggin has fostered for years as one of Crossroads’ core values.”
