Crossroads Focuses on Bees and Pollinators

Crossroads at Big Creek is preparing for the upcoming honey harvest hosted by the Door County Beekeepers Club by focusing on bees and other pollinators.

The week will begin with an invasive-species work party Aug. 17, 10 am. Meet the Friends of Crossroads at the maintenance building. No experience is necessary, but work gloves are recommended.

Learn about the importance of flower shape (hint: it helps to ensure that bees and other insects pollinate plants) on Aug. 20, 10 am, through an indoor lesson and outdoor observation.

Learn about bees and the color spectrum Aug. 21, 10 am. Stunning videos and outside observations will help learners of all ages to understand the relationships between pollinators and flowers.

Bees use pollen for food, but how do they collect and transport it? The program on Aug. 22, 10 am, will include videos and hands-on activities.

The Collins Learning Center, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay,  is open daily, 10 am – 4 pm, and during scheduled events.
