Crossroads Hosts Honey Fest

Crossroads at Big Creek has a honey of an event scheduled for the culminating Door County Reads event – Honey Fest with special guest Max Martin on Feb. 16, 2 – 4 pm.

A honey tasting station will one of many hands-on activities that families and learners of all ages can visit during Honey Fest. Martin, beekeeper and educator for the U.W. Peninsular Research Station, will tell festival-goers about bees, honey and beekeeping.

Martin’s interest in bees started when he was a little boy growing up on a small dairy farm in central Wisconsin. His family made 100 gallons of maple syrup each spring and would trade some of their maple syrup for a cousin’s sweet honey.

Martin looks forward to sharing his knowledge of beekeeping, hive hierarchy, bee dancing, and how the queen controls the hive.

Honey Fest is free and open to the public.

A community ski is scheduled for Feb. 17, 1:30 – 3:30 pm (weather permitting). Visitors may borrow skis/ bindings or snowshoes free of charge, use them on Crossroads property and return them before dark. Equipment is in the lower level of the Collins Learning Center.

The Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay, is open daily 2 – 4:30 pm. For more information visit http://www.crossroadsatbigcreek.org.
