Crossroads of Door County Hosts Various Progams

Crossroads at Big Creek will continue offering programming and educational opportunities throughout June.

“Know the Enemy: Buckthorn Eradication Workshop” will be held June 10 at 9 am. This workshop (with the emphasis on work) will help participants learn to recognize buckthorn, to remove and treat buckhorn, and allow them the chance to practice removal. Participants are asked to wear gloves and clothes that can get stained.

Families will have an opportunity to learn about dandelions during a workshop simply titled “Dandelions” on June 12 at 3:30 pm. On June 13 at 1:30 pm, families are welcome to join the naturalist for a one-hour hike entitled “Exploring with Hand Lenses.”

June 14 at 11 am, the Crossroads will host a “Flag Day Hike.” Though there will be birds and flowers to observe, the objective of the hike is to search for Whitetail Deer and see them “flag” as they bound through the preserve.

June 15 at 7 pm, the Door County Environmental Council will present the complete “Story of Stuff” video presentation narrated by Annie Leonard who analyzes the passion that American consumers have for throwaway products. Leonard explores cosmetic use, electronics planned obsolescence, and the fallacy of bottled water in her “Stuff” presentation illustrated in cartoon format.
