Crossroads Offers Hikes, Programs for Families

Crossroads at Big Creek continues its summer programming for families. Habitat Healers will meet July 10, 9:30-11:30 am; and July 13, 6:30-8 pm. Volunteers of all ages may help with the land-restoration efforts, and instruction will be given. 

Join Crossroads’ summer intern, Megan Hart, on July 10, 1 pm; and July 15, 10 am, for an orienteering adventure using a compass and maps. Meet at the Collins Learning Center. 

Hart will also lead a program July 14, 6:30-7:30 pm, to discuss the importance of trees, how they work and how to determine their age.

Summer educator Joan Wilkie will share the wonders of Crossroads with all ages July 13, 10-11 am. Meet at the Collins Learning Center to learn about creatures that may travel 10,000 miles or more to arrive at Crossroads and how they change along the way. 

On July 14, 10-11 am, Wilkie will also discuss how plants and animals from an ancient sea transformed into Crossroads’ fossils.

On July 15, 6:30-7:30 pm, learn about the amphibians and other animals that live in Crossroads’ wetlands, and maybe catch a few to look at up close!

Take a self-guided hike July 16, 7:30 pm. Gather at the outdoor amphitheater along Big Creek for a short presentation by a Crossroads naturalist, some acoustic songs by musician Mike Bleck and nature bedtime stories.Get more details about these and other programs at Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, at crossroadsatbigcreek.org.
