Crossroads Offers Ski/Snowshoe Loans

Crossroads at Big Creek will offer equipment loans Thursday through Sunday for the rest of the snowy season. Each Sunday if conditions are favorable, recreation equipment will be available from 1 – 3 pm. Exercisers of all ages are invited to borrow skis or snowshoes (while supplies last) free of charge; they must be returned by dark.

Crossroads’ educational theme for 2014 is “Below the Surface.” This year will focus on water quality, archaeology, geology, Great Lakes ecosystems and soils. Scheduled for this year is an archeological survey to find evidence of habitation of the earliest Door Peninsula residents.

Connected to the “Below the Surface” theme is the lecture about the escarpment on Jan. 6 at 2 pm. Location of villages, agriculture, industry, and tourism were determined by Door County’s geological history. This free lecture will highlight the relationships between land and way of life.

Also in 2014, Crossroads will repair and implement some preventative maintenance on the Collins Learning Center building, including the repurposing of its lower level.

The Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay, is open daily 2 – 4:30 pm and during scheduled activities. Trails are free and open to the public. For more information visit crossroadsatbigcreek.com.
