Crossroads Presents Garden Workshops for Families

Seeds will germinate in the greenhouse at Crossroads at Big Creek soon after April 19. This date is the first of the three sessions of the Garden Workshop for Families. This program, sponsored by Friends of Crossroads and Master Gardeners, gives families a chance to learn-by-doing under the guidance of instructors Pat Thorp, of Pat’s Patch Organic Produce, Master Gardener Patsy Stierna, and volunteer members of the Door County Master Gardeners.

The first class is hands-on, or more accurately, “hands-in learning” because family members work together to prepare the soil blocks and plant the seeds which will develop in the Crossroads Greenhouse.

On May 10, adults will learn the basics of gardening while kids enjoy a hike in the Big Creek Preserve. Then, during the final session on May 24, families will help plant the Heritage Garden at Crossroads and each family will take home the plants they need to start their own garden. Registration is required. The material cost is $15, but each participating family will take home at least $50 worth of plants. This class fills up quickly. Register at [email protected] or 920.746.5895. When registering, provide your name, names/ages of children, your email and phone number. Pay on the first night of class.

Crossroads at Big Creek is located at 2041 Michigan just east of the Highway 42/57 Roundabout in Sturgeon Bay. Trails in all preserves are open 24/7 free of charge.
