Crossroads Welcomes Explorers of All Ages

Exploration is the theme at Crossroads in early July, and there are numerous programs for explorers of all ages.

The Door County Historical Society invites the community to enjoy Sunday in The Village each Sunday between 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Admission and village tours are free and each week features a different program.

On July 8, Dr. Paul Burton will discuss “The Vikings and Their Westward Wanderings.” He will provide a survey of the westward exploration of Scandinavian Vikings, beginning with the development of the long ship. The program begins at 2 pm in the Collins Learning Center.

Mondays through Thursdays, Crossroads also offers family programs. Pre-registration is not required and programs begin at 1:30 pm.

On July 9, the program is “School Days in 1900,” and will provide lessons in a country school with reading, writing and arithmetic.

On July 10, “Butterflies” lets families participate in capture/release activities.

On July 11, “Songs and Stories of a 1900s Chapel” will teach the importance of the church in a rural community.

The Door Peninsula Astronomical Society will hold its general meeting on July 10 at 7 pm. DPAS President Dave Udell will discuss NASA’s flagship mission for X-ray astronomy, “Chanda,” and Dr. John Beck offers the illustrated lecture, “Galaxies,” featuring deep space exploration.

Visitors are invited to the meeting at the Stonecipher Astronomy Center.

The Collins Learning Center and The Historical Village at Crossroads is located at 2041 Michigan Street, east of Highway 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay.
