D.R. Baker Releases “American Supper”

On March 8, 2011, D.R. Baker published his first collection of poetry, American Supper. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Baker has returned to Algoma where he established his own publishing company, Transtemporal Publishing, Ltd.

Incorporated in 2010, Transtemporal Publishing will specialize in controversial and sometimes enigmatic topics such as contemporary urban life, art and literary criticism, alternative health, and modern spirituality both in theory and practice. Transtemporal Publishing’s mission includes the publication of lesser-known, oft-obscure Midwestern writers and reporters with a unique perspective on life in this diverse region.

American Supper chronicles Baker’s travels throughout the Southwest as well as his life in the city of Milwaukee and rural Wisconsin. Written in blank verse, this collection addresses universal themes such as love, death, sex, and patriotism. He also employs a somewhat startling approach to imagery in what he refers to as “post-Apocalyptic verse.”

Baker, an entrant in the Wisconsin Book Festival of 2011 in Madison, Wisconsin, is currently at work on another collection, Lariats and Lasses, due for release in early 2012. He is also penning a book of creative non-fiction titled Love & Tornados.

Baker has worked as a journalist for the Door County Advocate and Denmark Press. He has also contributed to the Tucson Weekly.
